Jauz, whose real name is Sam Vogel, rocketed into fame in 2014 with his release of “Feel The Volume.” He has since made a successful career for himself, having previously secured Las Vegas residencies at KAOS and Hakkasan, as well as touring around the world with performances at acclaimed festivals such as Tomorrowland and Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas. The producer attributes his success to not only timing and luck, but also to not letting himself be defined by one genre.

“The whole goal behind the Jauz project was to keep people guessing and not really be able to put a specific label or title on it. I think I’ve done a pretty decently good job at that,” Vogel says. “My taste is always changing and evolving, so I feel like my music should be able to replicate that.”

The Bite This label boss adds that the mantra behind Jauz is “music has no boundaries,” and he believes artists should be able to make various genres of music under one brand to not only express themselves creatively but also to expose fans to music they may not have listened to otherwise. Vogel even goes so far to describe his music as “all over the place,” which he says translates not only into the music he produces and performs at shows, but also into who he is as a person.

“I was definitely growing up and still today that typical kind of ADHD, all over the place, scatter-brain kid, and I think that’s a large part the reason that I make music the way that I do,” he notes.

At a typical show, Vogel says he plays everything from rock and roll to hip hop and numerous genres across the electronic dance music spectrum. His current US tour Dangerous Waters, which will close this Saturday at Avant Gardner, boasts a LED panel dubbed The Fin that moves around with Vogel while he plays. “We wanted to create something that kind of allowed me to do what I do best, which is put on a crazy, high-energy party, but also have layers and moments of more cinematic, visual elements and moments,” he adds.

Vogel says that he always tries to grow creatively and artistically through his tour, while also providing his fans with an experience as well as an avenue to release stress. At first, Vogel looked down on being a party DJ. “If people just come to go crazy, what does that mean for me as an artist?” he questioned. However, he says he has since come to realize that providing that style of show helps fans as much as if he made emotional music.

Outside of his shows, Vogel interacts with his fans through his monthly Demo Roulette series on Twitch and in partnership with Discord. With the live stream series, he selects a demo and works with an aspiring producer. Vogel says that he initially learned how to make dance music by watching YouTube tutorials before he went to school for music, so he began the live stream series as a way to give back to the community.

“I’m helping the specific person whose project I’m working on immensely because I’m working on their song, but also if you are a music producer you can watch me work on any project and you’ll still learn a ton because I’m still using all of the same techniques I would if I were working on my music or on any other project,” he says.

Moving forward, Vogel plans to make his live streaming more inclusive to all fans and not just producers by live streaming more behind the scenes content from his shows. He adds that he also plans to release as much music as he can in 2020.
